Nike Snow Sculpture

Description

Well after 18 hours of round the clock work, I finally finished her. I wasn't able to go outside to finish her yesterday because it was way too cold for me to be spending 6 or more hours with my hands in the snow, so I finished her today instead, because it was 13 degrees warm outside instead of 10. I've had an unbelievable amount of complements from passers-by's. Most everyone who have seen this sculpture up close seem to like it. I actually had one lady come up to me and ask me if I was an artist? My answer was no, that I only did this as a hobby.

This is actually a long overdue thank you that is owed to :iconnikegoddessnike: for a pretty generous donation to my donation pool about 2 years ago.

Anyhow as for the sculpture, yes it is my second snow sculpture ever, and it is so far my best one yet. I'm still pretty new at this whole idea. It's nothing like what originally imagined, there is way more thought process and planning ahead for one of these sculptures than I ever imagined. I actually thought that snow sculpting was going to be easy and that with my talent that I'd be able to sculpt anything that I put my imagination to, boy was I ever wrong. Sculpting something from snow is not like drawing on paper, if you make a mistake or over estimate something, there's no going back, there's no erasing or starting over, you only have block of snow to start out with, so any experienced sculptor knows all of that. The problem was than none of that ever occurred to me when I first started my first snow sculpture last year which (in my opinion) was a complete disaster. Unfortunately I could not put too much detail into this sculpture mostly because I'd run risk of ruining an important detail such as an arm or a face or something along those lines, so this was as detailed as I could get (which is still not bad for a second solo snow sculpture). It's not that I've never had any experience snow sculpting, its just that building stereotypical snow man and snow fortresses are at a whole lower level from that of sculpting something that looks remotely human and anatomically correct out of a 5'x6'x7.5' solid block of snow.

I almost gave up on this project, but I'm glad I didn't, it was pretty fun in the end and overall I'm about 95% happy with the way everything came out.
